different types of solar panels

Polycrystalline solar panels are among the most common types of solar panel. These panels consist of multiple small pieces called silicon. Something nice about Polycrystalline is that they are also generally cheaper than other units. Which is cool as it would allow you to savemoney on using solar power for your home. But, there is a catch; the efficiency at which these panels convert sunlight to electricity was less. This means that they can't generate as much electricity like other solar panels.

Thin film solar panel: An example of another type of a solar panels They have a thin film of silicon, and are therefore lighter than other panels. However, this lighter weight quality is great for those of you who want to mount these on a building without walls and with no pitched roof. This makes thin film panels more versatile as they can be formed into different shapes allowing for a broader selection of installation. However, in the same way as polycrystalline panels, thin film boards are only so good when it comes to converting sun into electricity.

Polycrystalline vs. Thin Film Solar Panels

If you are looking for a different color, polycrystalline solar panels come only in colors like blue or black. These panels consist of thousands smaller crystals grouped in a certain way to help absorb sunlight and convert it into electricity. Although they often come with a lower price tag, the relative inefficiency of their conversion rate makes them less efficient than some alternative solar systems at harnessing sunlight and turning it into electrical power.

Thin film solar panels, on the other hand, are generally black or brown. They are constructed of an ultra-thin silicon which makes them both lightweight and quite flexible. Because of this flexibility, they can be shaped any way needed-a helpful quality for buildings that do not have flat roofs. All the same, thin-film panels suffer from the conversion of sunlight into electricity in a similar manner as do polycrystalline panel.
